Dr. Houston graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1995. She began working at Lake Area Animal Hospital as a veterinary assistant/kennel assistant while attending McNeese State University. Upon receiving her Bachelor Degree in Biological Sciences in 2001, she attended Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, she moved back home to practice at Lake Area Animal Hospital for two years as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Since 2015, Dr. Houston has been employed at Calcasieu Parish Animal Services full-time, while working as a relief veterinarian at several clinics in the parish. She is now full-time at Lake Area Animal Hospital, and she couldn’t be happier to be ‘home.’

Dr. Houston looks forward to continuing the excellent care that clients have grown accustomed to at the hospital. With so many excellent choices in the Lake Charles area, she is thankful to those who have chosen to patronize Lake Area Animal Hospital.

We adopted my sweet pup, Basil, at Lake Area Animal Hospital years ago. It was evident that the staff loved and cared for Basil. They even sent us home with a list of thing Basil liked and didn’t like. We have also had a dog treated for diabetes at Lake Area Hospital. The staff was knowledgeable and trained our family to give him his insulin.

I love the veterinarians and the medical staff. They were very loving toward my fur baby Lucy and they even snapped a picture with her doing some tricks! She always loves getting treats from them while they do what they need to do and they are so careful not to hurt her or make her feel uncomfortable. And they also give her all the belly rubs.
